Homemade Borax Free Laundry Detergent

1/2 cup baking soda

​

1/2 cup citric acid

​

1 cup washing soda

​

1/4 cup coarse sea salt

​

1 bar of Castile soap*

​

Approx. 20-30 drops of essential oils of your choice**

Method

Grate up the bar of soap with a fine grater or alternatively you can break it/cut it into small chunks and blend it.

​

Then add the baking soda, washing soda and citric acid. Give it a good mix and then add the salt and mix again.

​

Finally, add essential oils and mix again.

​

You may find that your mixture becomes a bit damp and sticky and may start to froth and you can avoid this by adding some small desiccant sachets to the mix.***

*I used a bar of my own homemade coconut oil soap but you can buy castile soap in most organic or health food shops

​

** I used 5 drops of lavender, 5 drops of geranium and 10 drops of peppermint.

 

***I bought a pack of 50 silica gel sachets and they are reusable. You just need to let them dry out either at room temp on a hot, dry day or in the oven at low temp. Just be careful not to accidentally put them in with your wash!
